Turnover in the Austrian trade increased nominally last year. In real terms, i.e. adjusted for inflation, there was a minus. This is the result of Statistics Austria data published yesterday, Monday.
Retail, wholesale and car dealerships nominally increased sales by 11.5 percent, in real terms this corresponded to a decline of 1.1 percent. Statistics Austria did not give any absolute figures. The service companies recorded strong growth, especially in the area of accommodation and gastronomy, which was particularly affected by the Corona measures in 2021.
The sales of the domestic service companies rose by 19.2 percent year-on-year, the accommodation and catering sector recorded growth of 60.2 percent. In the 4th quarter, the increase was 12.7 percent, accommodation and gastronomy increased their sales by 40.8 percent. The transport and warehousing area also recorded a 13.0 percent increase in sales.
