Pitched battle between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama fans ended with one deceased

The so-called Clásico de los Millones between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama has the seasoning that the game begins several hours before in the streets of Rio de Janeiro. The tenth day of the Carioca Championship once again measured the two clubs with the largest fans in the country but unfortunately not all was joy in the vicinity of the Maracana stadium: the crooked ones were found in different sectors of the city and there were numerous isolated conflicts that left seven seriously injured and one dead.

Social networks were flooded with images of the conflict where the movements of the fans in search of their rivals and points of contact with fireworks as weapons were appreciated. In addition, among the victims who were admitted to the Souza Aguiar Hospital, one is still under observation due to his critical condition. Identified as Bruno Macedo dos Santos, the supporter did not respond positively to the treatments and died Monday morning at the clinic.

Carlos Henrique da Silva Ferreira, 34, is the other main victim and a video of him without clothes in the middle of the street after being beaten circulates on social networks. “My godmother identified him from the filming and went to show it to me. They took her wallet, the motorcycle keys, everything. He came here without any identification. It is very difficult to know that one of our children is in such a situation, in ignorance. They have trivialized the lives of human beings up to this point,” said the mother in a chat with Bom Dia, Rio

The authorities reported that the agents seized about 50 pieces of wood, nine iron bars, five homemade bombs, fireworks, punches, and explosive devices. With the arrival of the police, one person was arrested and the other criminals managed to flee the scene. The incidents spread to the corridors of the Maracana stadium, although in a milder way: there were meetings between the two factions but no serious injuries thanks to the rapid action of security. The Military Police deployed a total of 600 officers to try to control the situation that was out of control at times and received the support of the fire department.

On the football front, Flamengo ended their difficult moment by falling by the slightest difference against Vasco da Gama. Uruguayan José Luis Rodríguez Bebanz was the author of the only goal of the game with an impressive shot from outside the big area after an ineffective rejection by the Mengao defense towards the center of the field. The last champion of the Copa Libertadores continues to lead in the Carioca Championship while the Admiral climbed to third position.
