PT and monarch also spoke about the fluidity of the bilateral agenda in the areas of trade and investment, cultural exchange and science, and technology
The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the Rei Charles III, talked this Monday, the 6th, by telephone and talked about climate change and the environment. “I just spoke by phone with the King of United Kingdom. We talked about the desire to deepen partnerships and discussions between our countries on the climate issue and protection of the environment”, wrote the PT on social networks. O Planalto Palace added that the conversation also addressed “the fluidity of the bilateral agenda in the areas of trade and investment, cultural exchange and science and technology, highlighting, among other topics, cooperation between Fiocruz and the University of Oxford in the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid -19”. There were expectations that Lula would be invited to attend the monarch’s coronation ceremony – scheduled for May 6 -, however, nothing was said about it. Charles III has been King of the United Kingdom since September 2022, when his mother, Elizabeth II, died aged 96, after 70 years of reign. Despite the fact that he is already on the throne, the coronation has not yet taken place. Since he was a prince, the monarch spoke about the need to fight climate change to preserve the planet, now as king, he wants to lead a movement of countries in favor of measures to contain global warming and promote sustainable economic development. This was the first time that Lula and Charles III had spoken since both assumed their positions. The last face-to-face meeting between them was in 2009, when the British went to Brasília and met with the PT at the Planalto Palace.
I have just spoken by telephone with King Charles III of the United Kingdom. We talked about the will to deepen partnerships and discussions between our countries on the climate issue and environmental protection.
