The Councilor for Social Welfare of the La Laguna City Council, Rubens Ascanio, and the CEO of the Public Mercantile Society for Territorial and Environmental Management and Planning (Gesplan), Manuel Agoney Piñero Ortiz, have recently formalized the contract for the drafting of the basic project and execution of the Northeast Municipal Nursery School, a fundamental step to respond to the demand for this service in the region and contribute to improving the reconciliation of families.

This action, which has an execution period of six months and a budget of 109,999.64 euros, will create the eighth municipal facility and expand the free public offering for low-income families. A newly built facility that will be erected on a municipally owned plot of almost 4,000 square meters and located, next to the TF-13, in Bajamar.

The Social Welfare Area promotes and manages this infrastructure for children from 0 to 3 years of age, which will cover the towns and neighborhoods of Tejina, Valle de Guerra, Bajamar, Punta del Hidalgo, Jóver and Las Barranqueras, in which an estimated average population of just over 400 minors in that age group.

For the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, “it is a demonstration of the government group’s commitment to education at an early age, which will allow us to offer a quality service that is in high demand in the Northeast Region, favoring family reconciliation, and in facilities according to the needs of minors”.

The mayor appreciated “the work carried out by the Social Welfare area to carry out this project.” Rubens Ascanio recalled that, “since the beginning of the mandate, we have recovered the public management of the municipal network of Municipal Nursery Schools and we have implemented an extensive program to improve facilities and equipment.” “And, in a longer administrative process than we would have liked, we have finally managed to unblock the first public nursery in the region, guaranteeing an endowment land adjusted to the needs and the drafting of the project for its execution as soon as possible”, added.

The councilor explained that for the execution of the work, “we have held several meetings with the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and we hope to be able to count on the financing of this regional department. We have various studies and reports that support the general interest and the need for this infrastructure of a markedly social nature, essential to guarantee equal opportunities and a quality service that provides the entire community with useful instruments capable of compensating for social inequalities. ”.
