“Thurbo no longer accepts Interrail tickets on their trains,” writes a user on a railway forum. He’s upset and doesn’t understand it. «This small-minded and short-sighted action shows once again and very clearly how wrong this practice is. Bravo Thurbo,” he continues.
There are also problems on the official Interrail website when you query the timetable with a Thurbo route. “Pass not valid” and “You have to buy a ticket at the normal price”, says the website. Above all, users are upset that the tickets are no longer valid without warning.
According to Thurbo, tickets are still valid
But that’s not really the case: At Thurbo AG, the excitement is initially incomprehensible. “I can clearly deny that Thurbo no longer accepts Inter or Eurail tickets. We are still part of the network and accept Interrail or Eurail tickets,” writes Christian Baumgartner, media spokesman for Thurbo AG, when asked by 20 minutes.
Thurbo received isolated reports and queries. There shouldn’t have been any complaints. The Thurbo cannot understand how the Thurbo railway routes could have been excluded from the Interrail network. “I can only assume a misunderstanding,” says Baumgartner. On Monday morning, due to the uncertainties that existed, Thurbo staff were informed of the validity of the passports.
Eurail communicates the invalidity of the tickets
The confusion is also great among Eurail employees. On the website, someone from the community asked the same question, why Interrail passes are not valid for Thurbo trains. “Our company communicated this back in February. At the moment, customers have to buy an extra ticket for the Thurbo trains,” says an employee. On a list of Eurail lists Thurbo’s moves that have been eliminated. These include some in the canton of Zurich, such as the S4 to Langnau-Gattikon and the S10 to Uetliberg, as well as lines in the canton of Schaffhausen.
The employee cannot answer further questions from customers. “I just got an internal message from my chairmen. Unfortunately, I don’t have the authority to post more specific details on this. We have to wait for an answer,” he writes. One thing is clear: From the point of view of Thurbo AG, the tickets are still valid.
When asked, Thurgau-Bodensee-Tourism did not want to comment on the effects on tourism. Thurbo’s intervention at Interrail is believed to resolve the issue.
