German politician Klingbeil: Ukraine must fulfill all conditions for EU accession
The co-chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Lars Klingbeil, said that Ukraine must fulfill all the necessary criteria for joining the European Union (EU). His words leads Bild.
Klingbeil noted that he had always insisted on starting negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He added that Ukraine must meet certain standards. “We are talking about the Copenhagen criteria. Each of them must be fulfilled,” he stressed.
On February 2, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the European Union to prepare for negotiations on Ukraine’s inclusion in the union.
The Ukrainian leader signed an application for the country’s accession to the European Union on February 28, 2022. On June 23, 2022, the Council of the European Union assigned the country the status of a candidate for joining the association.
