From 'Game of Thrones' to 'Breaking Bad': this is how the author of 'Shingeki no Kyojin' was inspired to create Gabi and Falco in the manga

When the fourth season of ‘Attack on Titan’ begins (shingeki no kyojin‘) On top of the fact that the animation studio changed, we also completely changed the setting and suddenly it seemed like we were watching a completely different series.

If until now we had been locked behind walls, now we see what the outside world is like with a roller coaster of revelations. And they also arrived a few new characters who, although they appear quite late in the party, have become key pieces in the story.

The thing is on TV

Gabi Braun and Falco Grice they are two aspiring Marley Warriors who train very hard to inherit a Titan. Although it is very, very easy to hate them when they appear, they quickly start stealing entire scenes and serve to show us all points of view of the conflict between Marley and Paradís.

hajime isayama He has already included references to other works that he likes, but with Gabi and Falco he decided to go a little further because used two of his favorite series as inspiration to create them: ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Game of Thrones’.

The mangaka explained in Anime NYC that Gabi is very inspired by Anya Starkespecially because she wanted to give her willpower and great skills as a warrior… Because even though things are very dark, Gabi always puts value in life and gets into situations that are a little too big for her.

On the other hand, Falco is inspired by Jesse Pinkman. Perhaps the reference here is not so clear, although Falco may physically resemble Jesse a bit, but Isayama explained that above all ‘Breaking Bad’ had an influence when it came to giving Falco this situation of being in the midst of different sides and loyalties.

Shingeki no Kyojin Saul Goodman

It must also be said that It is not the first time that we have a reference to ‘Breaking Bad’ in ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ because at the time we also had a titan that looked suspiciously like Saul Goodman.

Now the anime is already entering its last phase, and among other things the introduction of Gabi and Falco It ended up serving both sides to come together to stop Eren… and from what we’re seeing, the last battle of ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ is going to be tremendous.
