The US government has shot down the Chinese “spy balloon” that has flown over the national territory in recent days, according to local media.

Although there is still no official confirmation, several witnesses quoted by the media say they have seen the balloon being shot down over the Atlantic Ocean.

US President Joe Biden, who had assured “he would take care of it”, approved shooting down the balloon, as an official told CNN.

The demolition plan began by paralyzing the airports of Wilmington, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as ordered by Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA also restricted airspace near Myrtle Beach. “to support the Department of Defense in a national security effort.”

Top military officials had advised against shooting down the balloon while it was over the continental US, due to the risk that debris would pose to civilians and buildings, though it should be noted that the option had not been ruled out entirely.
