German chancellor says no room for mediation with Putin

The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, warned on Thursday that “regretfully” there is not “the required space” to mediate with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, the end of war in ukraine.

In any case, he assured that will continue to talk to himdespite criticizing “the imperialist war” he launched, during a debate forum with German citizens, where the dominant theme was the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On the occasion, he stressed that the path to peace negotiations must be marked by the “withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine”.

Scholz insisted on the need to continue to speak with Putin “as long as it takes”as he has done, together with French President Emmanuel Macron.

However, he warned that the bet on diplomacy cannot lose sight of the fact that Putin “attacked the borders of another country by force” and that his objective is “to gain territory illegally”, in addition to causing pain, despair and death among Ukrainians. .
