US researchers have now found the ideal break recipe. So getting up every half hour and walking around for at least five minutes is absolutely ideal. “Our results show that even small amounts of walking throughout the day can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases,” says Keith Diaz, lead author of the study published in the journal “Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise” and exercise physiologist at the Columbia University in New York.
According to the study, walking around regularly also tends to have a positive effect on mood and reduces tiredness – perhaps the strongest argument for getting up again and again. “Because people are more likely to repeat behaviors that make them feel good,” Diaz said.
