FC Schalke 04: Suddenly there is hope – this great opportunity may never come again

The start of the new year robbed FC Schalke 04 of many hopes. Instead of reconnecting, after two clear defeats, they were further away from the saving bank than ever before. But now suddenly a big opportunity opens up.

Before Sunday’s game against Cologne (3:30 p.m.), FC Schalke 04 watched all their rivals lose their games. An opportunity like this shouldn’t come back anytime soon – and give rise to new hope.

FC Schalke 04: All competitors lose

For many, a Sunday game is a disadvantage – everyone is allowed to play until they can, at best, catch up on the deficit that has arisen. But the 18th matchday shows: It can also work the other way around.

The start of the second half of the season went perfectly for Schalke before their own kick-off. All competitors in the fight for relegation have lost. The S04 could significantly reduce the meanwhile hefty gap of seven points to the saving bank with just one win.

Table places 17, 16, 15, 14 and 13 lose

Hertha (0:2 against Union Berlin), Bochum (2:5 at Mainz 05), Stuttgart (1:2 in Leipzig), Augsburg (1:3 in Freiburg) and Hoffenheim (1:4 against Gladbach) – all teams up places 13 to 17 in the table remained without points.

Now it’s up to FC Schalke 04. On Sunday there’s a big chance to start catching up. The constellation of seeing all competitors fail in front of one’s own game is rare and should not come back so quickly – if at all.
