Just as they read it… Or well, at least as they tell it there in the United Kingdom. It’s fair to say that Fatboy Slim and David Bowie They are two of the great idols that British music has given, each one in their respective style.
And although some would think that the iconic DJ who established himself as a forerunner of big beat would have nothing but good feelings about ‘Starman’, the truth is that Norman Cook –Slim’s real name– has a curious anecdote that did not leave him with a good feeling about the London idol.
Fatboy Slim and his story with David Bowie that disappointed him a little
According to The Argus, Fat Boy Slim was recently interviewed by actor and comedian Kevin Bishop at an event at Brighton Beach House. And there, in the middle of the talk, the music producer told some rather peculiar anecdotes.
But the one that undoubtedly drew attention was one in which the name of David Bowie. The thing is, Bishop asked Cook if there was anyone he wishes he hadn’t met. The DJ replied that maybe “The majority of them”not all… And there came the revelation about the Thin White Duke.
“There is one. It’s David Bowie…”said Fatboy Slim. Yes, we’re also left with a WHAAAAT!? It all happened at an event that Bowie organized several years ago prior to a tour and one of the guests was the DJ of “Weapon Of Choice.”
At the after party for that event, Slim says he approached David and pranked him to ask for a cigarette. “From a Bromley boy [una región londinense] to another, can I have a cigarette for you? Fatboy told Bowie. The composer of “Rebel Rebel”, says the DJ, looked at him a little confused and just gave him the cigarette.
“I’m Fatboy Slim, by the way”said Norman Cook when he was presented with his idol. And well, David just responded like: “Yes, I know”. Fatboy said that Bowie was very polite actually, but that he didn’t feel that his idol was very impressed with his presence, and that gave him a little down.
“Most of the people one loves are really lovely, and the older they are, the more lovely they tend to be; They don’t need to show their ego or that they are smarter than you… The great ones are really nice people“Slim concluded.
