A woman was stabbed on the street in Essen on Wednesday morning (January 25). At around 9:20 a.m., numerous witnesses dialed the emergency call and reported a man who stabbed a female victim on Manteuffelstrasse. Police rushed to the scene in large numbers. There they met a seriously injured woman.

The rescue service took over the first aid on site for the 50-year-old victim, who is apparently related to the alleged perpetrator, and then took him to the hospital under resuscitation conditions. But the medical staff could do nothing more for the woman. She succumbed to her severe stab wounds only a short time after the attack.

The police cordoned off the crime scene in Essen’s south-eastern district. A trail of blood testifies to the terrible act that happened on the sidewalk in the morning. A pair of glasses lies lost on the floor, along with several blankets. They were allegedly used to warm the victim of the violence until emergency services arrived.

When the Essen police forces arrived at the crime scene, they not only found the victim. A police spokesman said that colleagues were able to catch a 34-year-old suspect on site. The suspected attacker has been arrested.

According to the current status of the investigation, the perpetrator was expecting his future victim on her doorstep and suddenly attacked her with a knife when the woman left the house. Another bystander was injured in a fall during the attack.

Investigators were able to secure the crime tool. Perpetrator and victim are related. The motive behind the crime is still unclear at this time. The police have set up a murder commission, which is headed by the Essen public prosecutor’s office to investigate the background and processes of the crime.

In a first version it was said that the act happened on Werdener Straße. The Essen police have since corrected this statement.
