Russian frigate trains to launch hypersonic missiles in the Atlantic

The Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov trained to launch hypersonic missiles in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean through a computer simulation, announced this Wednesday the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The frigate’s crew simulated the launch of a Zircon missile against a maritime target that imitated an enemy ship and that was at a distance of more than 900 kilometers, according to the ministry of Serguei Shoigu.

During the training, “the frigate’s combat crew demonstrated high coordination of actions”, added the Defense.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov also plans to carry out a series of joint exercises off the coast of South Africa together with the South African navy and the Chinese navy in February.

The War in Ukraine

The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine has so far caused the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced and almost eight million to European countries -, according to the latest data. of the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

At the moment, 17.7 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian aid and 9.3 million are in need of food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community in general, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing Russia from political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 7,068 dead civilians and 11,415 wounded, underlining that these numbers are far from the real ones.
