Peru formally complained to Chile and expressed this Wednesday its “discomfort” at the “disrespectful” way in which Chilean President Gabriel Boric spoke of his Peruvian counterpart, Dina Boluarte, during the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), held on Tuesday in Buenos Aires.
“Vice Foreign Minister Ignacio Higueras today conveyed to the Chilean ambassador the discomfort that has generated in the Peruvian government the disrespectful way in which President Gabriel Boric referred toin her speech at Celac, to the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte”, detailed the Peruvian Foreign Ministry on Twitter.
Boric described as “unacceptable” the repression and violence exerted against Peruvian demonstrators under the Boluarte government, and indicated that before this situation arises the “imperious need” to achieve “a change of course” in Peru. Also, compared some of the facts with crimes committed by military dictatorships in the Southern Cone decades ago.
He indicated that the course chosen by the constitutional government of President Boluarte is the advancement of general elections so that Peruvians decide without interference and in peace the destiny of Peru. The Government will not change the course of democratic institutions.
