The eagerness with which news channels and open television cycles have put into broadcasting second by second of the hearings led many of the viewers to express their displeasure, indicating that the objective behind it was to set aside other topics . The medium that was at the forefront of this was, without a doubt, TN.
It was precisely at the signal of the Clarin Group and its gender editor, the aforementioned Abiuso, which opened a powerful debate that began with a few isolated tweets and ended up being carried out by a large part of journalism.
The premise was that feminism had not expressed itself at any time or expressed solidarity with the Dupuy family and that Abiuso, from his role, had prevented the data and repercussions of the murder of the five-year-old boy from sneaking into the programming.
The first to bring this issue to the screen was Trebucq. the driver of The cruel truth exploded against those radicalized sectors that never came out in repudiation of the murderers, the same case as public organizations and NGOs and, of course, that the judge Ana Clara Perez Ballesterwho made the decision to return possession of Lucio to his mother and stepmother.
That was not the only time that the driver recently joined A24 referred to this case. He did it again on the January 24 broadcast.
“They [Espósito Valenti y Páez] They were very active, participants from different ultra-feminist communities in the province of La Pampa that are deafeningly silent at this point in the game. A silence that defines them”, said the former journalist Chronicle TV.
Trebucq’s statements were a reflection of what various sectors, opponents not only of feminism but of any type of progressive cause, considered regarding Lucio’s crime. In short, they considered these groups as accomplices in the case and that the homicide was committed under the slogans that these groups supposedly dictate.
Given this scenario, Abiuso was the victim of enormous harassment, to the point that she was forced to close her Twitter account. Although the journalist was supported by several of her colleagues, after several days of controversy she decided to issue her through an opinion article for the TN news portal.
Although she did not refer in particular to her case nor did she victimize herself because of what happened, the gender editor did present certain justifications to explain the reason for the issue that started the whole matter, that is, the enormous media coverage for the case of Fernando and zero attention to Lucio’s.
Some of its foundations were more than reasonable, for example, that the hearings for the Báez Sosa crime were public, while those of the process against Espósito Valenti and Abigail Páez were behind closed doors because it is a case of sexual abuse against a child and their privacy is preserved even if they have died
However, he also maintained that, in relation to Dupuy’s death, “there are details that are not published because they only add curiosity.” This phrase resonates, taking into account the level of detail with which the murder of the 18-year-old has been specified.
Now, despite such reflections, Abiuso did not hesitate to slide, very much in the style of “Not all men are the same”, that there were different feminist currents and that not all of them thought in the same way. This clarification by the genre editor was not accidental.
It happens that there was no shortage of those who, moving more out of ideology than out of common sense, came not only to rehearse a defense for the murderers, but also to locate them as victims.
An example of this was a document that came out by the transfeminist and anti-prison collective I did not goin which he proposed a review of the causes of homicide aggravated by the relationship in which the mitigation of not having been able to access the voluntary interruption of the pregnancy in a timely manner has not been taken into account.
Another more renowned case was that of the legislator Ofelia Fernández, who back in 2021, instead of focusing on condemning the murderers, pointed out the alleged homophobia that was spreading, given that the crime would have been perpetrated by a homosexual couple, and that for this reason the authorities acted more quickly.
With everything related, it is clear that it is a discussion in which both sides have launched sustainable arguments and others that are somewhat weaker on paper. But there is an approach that, until now, only one person has had and that is Alfredo Casero. Leaving aside the issues of feminism, gender hatred, if one case generates more ratings and another does not, he said:
“I wish those two shit against dying in jail, just like the sons of bitches who killed that boy. Now, journalists do not talk about the case of Lucio Dupuy because it does not suit them, because the drop in The government will always give it to journalism,” concluded.
After all, it would not be at all strange to think that the power of the official guideline is, once again, the one who decides what is the agenda that should be installed in the media.
