On Saturday, January 28, the new version of the Soundtiago Festival will be held, a transdisciplinary meeting with national and international guests from Latin America. The event will be between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Providencia Campus of the University of the Americas (UDLA).
The 4th edition of Festival Soundtiago is organized by the Faculty of Architecture, Animation, Design and Construction of the Universidad de las Américas. An event that proposes to explore the possible relationships between body, sound and space, through experimentation between disciplines such as architecture, art and performancecreating a space of interference that uses the urban geography of the city of Santiago de Chile as a support.
The focus of this new edition seeks to question the specificity of media that draw the limits between the disciplines that it summons, and that allows consolidating the interaction of interdisciplinary creation, positioning itself as a platform of experiences with academic concerns coming from different conceptual origins, where the actors are linked with researchers, creators and students.
This year, the guests for this 2023 version have the Argentine Bard Todolthe name under which Pablo Picco has projected for some years a way of making noise, concrete music, free folk, field recordings and experiments with magnetic tapes, as part of the programming.
Meanwhile, the nationals Alejandro AlbornozPhD in electroacoustic composition who investigates the human voice, poetry, algorithms and language in acousmatic pieces, both in multichannel and stereo formats; NICHUNIMUan improvisational trio that works within the limits of free jazz and minimalism, will present us with their LP titled “Un Cacho de Metal, Un Resto de Vaivén”, published in November 2022 by the 577 records label and Resonant Spacesa project that invites you to explore, based on sound experimentation and the interaction between architecture and listening, which will also be included in this year’s proposal; Mario Z, who has developed his work from painting, installation, sound and experimental music.
Also, Bolgeri and Marina society that investigates from choreography, music and visual arts, the problem of sound, body and visuality, as moving physical entities that transform space and reality, are also part of this fourth version.
They add to this new edition, Agnes Peace who from the spaces of intuition and a permanent exploration of sound, investigates and creates sound compositions using the theremin as an instrument, an interface or the extension of his own voice. Y Tsonami Sound Art, an organization from Valparaíso dedicated to the encouragement, development and promotion of contemporary sound practices. Since 2007, it has produced the Tsonami International Sound Art Festival, an annual instance where sound artists from all over the world gather to carry out residencies and artistic processes that involve the territory and the city as a space for research and experiences.
Thus, the closing of the line-up of the Soundtiago 2023 Festival will be in the hands of the project of the Union of Planetary Urbanistsa collective made up of the architects, Juan Pablo Corvalán and Julio Suárez, who work with collaborations from various artists and release their first album entitled “Metro Chile”, which projects the sound imaginary of urban theories critical of the Universe.
