The United States will supply 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. This was officially announced by President Joe Biden.
According to Biden, the tanks will help the Armed Forces “better maneuver in open areas.”
The US President also thanked Germany for the decision to transfer Leopard tanks to Kyiv. He stressed that this once again showed the unity of Ukraine’s allies and the futility of Russia’s attempts to divide them.
White House officials later clarified that the tanks would not be delivered until a few months later.
Ukraine has been asking Western countries to supply tanks to it for many months. For a long time, they refused, fearing that this could lead to an escalation of the conflict.
Germany announced the delivery of Leopard tanks earlier on January 25th. Prior to this, Berlin was slow to make this decision, which is why it was criticized by other Western countries.
