Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Western allies to send long-range missiles and fighter jets, after Germany and the United States endorsed the shipping heavy tanks for the Kiev armed forces.
“We must also allow the delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine, this is important. We must also expand our cooperation in artillery and [viabilizar] sending fighter planes,” Zelensky said in his daily speech posted on social media.
“Today I spoke with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. We have to unlock the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine, it is important for us to expand our cooperation in artillery, we have to get the supply of aircraft to Ukraine” , said the Ukrainian President.
Several Western countries confirmed this Wednesday the sending of heavy tanks to Ukraine, although the numbers are still uncertain, after Germany authorized the transfer of Leopard 2s and the United States announced the supply of Abrams tanks.
After having praised the decision of Washington and Berlin throughout the day, the Ukrainian leader said that “the main thing now is speed and volume. The speed of training our military, the speed of supplying tanks to Ukraine.”
“We can do it. Together and just in the same way we took decisions today”, he said, underlining that it was “a dream”, but also “a task” to provide the Ukrainian armed forces with new capabilities.
“The more defense support our heroes at the front receive from the world, the sooner Russia’s aggression will end and the more reliable security guarantees will be for Ukraine and all our partners after the war,” he declared.
