The former US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, recounts in his new book that the then US president had to explain to him that it was a reference to the Elton John song.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did not understand the nickname ‘Little Rocket Man’ given to him by former US President Donald Trump, so he explained it to him in person, according to reports. he claimed former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, quoted by Business Insider.

In his new book ‘Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love’, which is released Tuesday, Pompeo described the scene that took place in the bilateral summit in Singapore in June 2018. Trump asked Kim if he knew who Elton John was, to which the North Korean leader replied no, and the then US president explained that the song ‘Rocket Man’ of the English singer motivated him to give him that nickname.

“Trump said it was a great song and pretended the reference was a compliment,” Pompeo said. Kim and other participants in the meeting reacted with laughter, after the North Korean leader responded: “‘Rocket Man’ is fine. ‘Little’ is not fine.”

Trump gave Kim Jong-un the nickname “Little Rocket Man” on his Twitter account in 2017, repeating it later during his speech to the UN General Assembly. Both leaders repeatedly insulted each other. For example, Kim called Trump a “scared dog” and a “crepit old man,” to which the former White House occupant replied that his “nuclear button” was “much bigger and more powerful.”
