The helicopter that crashed in Brovary, Kyiv region, on January 18, crashed due to pilot error, who noticed a high-rise building late during fog. This is reported by the publication “Strana.ua”, referring to sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. This information has not been officially confirmed.
One of the interlocutors of the publication said that the commander of the aircraft chose the path over Brovary because of fears that a missile attack would be launched from Belarus. Ukrainian forces used electronic jamming, which, according to the source, affected the operation of navigation instruments.
Sources of the publication claim that the pilot was flying too low, visibility was limited due to fog, and due to the lack of electricity, red lights did not work on the roofs of high-rise buildings.
“At a critical moment, already very close, the pilot saw the house, but he no longer had options to prevent a disaster. He abruptly took a roll and a helicopter, ”said one of the interlocutors of the publication.
After the crash of the aircraft in Brovary, the SBU said that among the versions of what happened were a violation of flight rules, a technical malfunction, and deliberate actions to destroy the helicopter.
The crash killed 14 people, including all 10 people aboard the helicopter. In the cabin of the aircraft were the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky and the people accompanying him. Among the dead is one child. In addition, another 25 people, including 11 children, were injured.
