Sporting beat FC Arouca by 2-1 in the League Cup Final Four, in Leiria. The lions managed to secure their place in the final of the competition, which will take place this Saturday. Sporting’s opponent will be known this Wednesday.
Both teams came in strong, but it was Paulinho who opened the scoring for Sporting at 45+7 minutes, with the help of Pedro Gonçalves.
In the second half, Arouca was not far behind and equalized thanks to Oday Dabbagh in the 58th minute.
In the 82nd minute, Paulinho he scored twice and put Sporting back in the lead, guaranteeing victory.
The game featured two goals disallowed, the first was by the foot of Antony, from Arouca, in the 45+1 minute and the same happened to Matheus Reis, from Sporting, in the 53rd minute.
This match was still marked by the expulsion of Arouca’s goalkeeping coach, due to protest at 45+4 minutes.
FC Porto will face Académico de Viseu this Wednesday at 19:45. one of the teams will qualify for the League Cup final on Saturday, which will be broadcast live on SIC.
Sporting has already won the League Cup four times, in 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 and 2021/2022, and will be present in the final for the seventh time, facing in the decisive game the winner of the match between national champions FC Porto and Académico de Viseu, from II Liga, which will be played on Wednesday.
