Oscar Awards 2023: 'Everything at once everywhere' surprises with its 11 nominations

Everything at once everywhere has earned 11 Oscar nominations, ranking ahead of Banshees by Inisherin Y The Fabelmans, with 9 and 7 nominations, respectively. Ana de Armas, for her part, will compete for the best actress award for her interpretation of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.

One can already speak of an authentic (and unexpected) phenomenon with the film by the Daniels, Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, which after taking home the awards for best actress for Michelle Yeoh at the Golden Globes and for best supporting actor for Ke Huy Quan (star children’s 80’s The Gonnies either Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), now leads the number of Oscar nominations.

It remains to be seen if this film that mixes nerdy science-fiction with martial arts and an emotional family story starring the Chinese rulers of a laundry, full of fantastic visual ideas, can subdue the new films by Steven Spielberg or Martin McDonagh . None of them seems to be out of the fight for the big prizes yet.

Spielberg has earned his ninth Best Director nomination with The Fabelmans, a film in which he definitely confronts the issue that hovers throughout his filmography: the separation of his parents. The film also illuminates his childhood and adolescent infatuation with cinema and narrates his beginnings in the profession.

Los Fabelmans has achieved a total of 7 nominations, among which John Williams for best soundtrack stands out, the 53rd of his career (and it may not be the last because he has retracted his initial idea of retiring after his work in the new installment of Indiana Jones).

Finally, none of the four Spanish short filmmakers who were shortlisted have managed to enter the final nominees list, so Spain is left without a representative at the 2023 Oscars.

The 95th edition of the Oscars will be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel, host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, on ABC’s Late Night, will host for the third time after experiences in 2017 and 2018. The nominations have been announced via streaming by performers Alison Williams and Riz Ahmed.
