New teachers strike between February 1st and 3rd

The National Union of Licensed Teachers (SNPL) announced this Tuesday that it called for three days of strike, between February 1 and 3, for “dignifying the conditions” of professionals and against Government proposals for recruitment and competitions.

The strike will take place “throughout the national territory, between 00:00 on the 1st of February and 24:00 on the 3rd of February”, reads the prior notice released this Tuesday.

Demonstrating against some of the Government’s proposals for the recruitment and mobility regime, the SNPL also calls for the full unfreezing of service time, a new statute for the teaching career, the fight against precariousness and a specific retirement regime.

With the stoppage of the SNPL, four different teachers’ strikes will be taking place in those days. The first stoppage has been going on since December of last year: an initiative by the Union of All Education Professionals (STOP) which, in December, called for an indefinite strike, which teachers have only partially complied with, just a short time ago. of classes.

Currently, two other strikes are taking place: a partial strike, which started at the beginning of the 2nd period, only during the first period of classes for each teacher, convened by the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE), and a total strike, convened by a platform of eight organizations, including the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), which takes place by district for 18 days, until February 8.

Last week, the unions participated in the third round of negotiations to discuss with the Ministry of Education the new model for recruiting and placing teachers, but the meetings ended without an agreement.

Negotiations should be resumed soon, still no date set for the next meeting, but the unions demand that other matters also be discussed.
