Lotto: Man changes his strategy - and shouldn't regret it

Sometimes you have to try something new to win – as a lottery player from South Wales has just experienced.

He has been taking part in the postcode lottery for years. Always using the same strategy. But when he changed them on a whim, it really paid off for him.

Lotto player changes strategy – and collects

Ted Owens (76) usually only buys one ticket for the postcode lottery. “But for some reason I bought two a month,” Ted told The Sun — and it paid off.

Because just this month, 435 players from Rhymney hit the jackpot of $3.7 million. The profit is divided among the players. How lucky for Ted that he bought two tickets at once. Because that’s how he won a whopping $370,000! The 76-year-old jokes that he is now the happiest man in the happiest city in the world.

But with all the happiness, there is also something that makes him sad. “I wish I had won the money eight years earlier when my wife was alive. We would have had a lot of fun with it,” he told The Sun.

What has he done with his winnings now? He raked in $15,000 and snagged his three kids, their partner and granddaughter to take a nine-day cruise to the Caribbean and South Africa together. He also bought a car. A Hyundai worth 20,000 euros.

Gambling can be addictive. When gambling behavior gets out of control and becomes a substitute for other personal problems, it can develop into pathological behavior and even into gambling addiction. It is then no longer just about spontaneous leisure time fun, but the game then suddenly takes on questionable functions: avoiding fear, panic, depression and other negative feelings or avoiding problems.

Anyone who thinks they are addicted to gambling or know someone who might be addicted to gambling can get help. For this there is the free and anonymous hotline 0800/1372700. More information on bzga.
