Limbecker Platz in Essen looks back on a turbulent year 2022. After years of restrictions due to the pandemic, the shopping center in the city center was finally able to reopen regularly. Then came the Ukraine war, the energy crisis and inflation.
Despite all the crises, Anastasios Meliopoulos can look back on a successful year 2022. In an interview with DER WESTEN, the center manager revealed how many visitors walked through Limbecker Platz every day. And what customers can now look forward to.
Limbecker Platz in Essen: pleasing figures
Anastasios Meliopoulos announced that after the crisis years for the retail trade, the number of visitors returned to the pre-corona level in the last quarter of 2022. Limbecker Platz registered around 50,000 visitors per day at the end of the year. In the previous quarters, the shopping center had already scratched the values before the pandemic.
And the sales of the retailers have increased accordingly. The final figures for all tenants are not yet available. But the trend is clearly positive, according to the center manager. In addition, the vacancy rate is currently only seven percent. “This is well below the average vacancy rate on the national market,” says Meliopoulos. A possible closure of the major tenant “Galeria Kaufhof” hangs over the shopping temple like a sword of Damocles. But there are also concepts for this (more here).
You can look forward to this at Limbecker Platz
And the center manager announces that customers will soon be able to look forward to new openings in the department store. Two fashion labels have already signed it. One of them wants to open its doors by summer at the latest, the other by autumn. In addition, Limbecker Platz is still in negotiations with another potential tenant. In all cases, however, Anastasios Meliopoulos cannot name any names so that the new tenants can go first.
Extraordinary terminations due to rising energy costs have not yet been received. But the situation is difficult to assess. Because the cost pressure puts a considerable strain on some sectors. As in the case of Galeria Kaufhof, Limbecker Platz has to be prepared for all eventualities. However, the number of visitors at the start of the new year gives the center manager hope for a successful 2023.
