Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin: one year of separation, but no divorce in sight
Cristina of Spain and Iñaki Urdangarín

Precisely one year ago, on January 24, 2022, Iñaki Urdangarin and the infanta Christina announced their separation, by mutual agreement, a decision that came after photographs of the former Duke of Palma were released walking on the beach hand in hand with another woman.

“By mutual agreement, we have decided to end our marital relationship. The commitment to our children remains intact. As this is a private decision, we ask for the utmost respect from everyone around us. Cristina de Borbón and Iñaki Urdangarin”, referred to the note sent that day to the EFE agency.

A year later, the second daughter of the emeritus kings of Spain continues to reside in Switzerland with the youngest of her four children, Ireneaged 17, and Iñaki Urdangarin no longer hides his relationship with Ainhoa Armentia – the woman with whom he was seen walking around at the time -, a lawyer who worked in the same office where the former player went to work after being released. Ainhoa was also married, but after the photos were released, she also separated.

However, and despite the fact that the relationship between the former Dukes of Palma has come to an end, the divorce process has not yet started, and the infanta continues to wear the wedding ring. A reconciliation seems unlikely, but the reasons why the two do not make the separation official has not been disclosed.

Remember that infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin were married on October 4, 1997, in Barcelona, a union that lasted 24 years and from which four children were born, juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene.
