Costa announces 2.7 billion PRR to invest in housing

The Government announced, this Tuesday, another 26,000 new homes for needy families and a new affordable housing program for young people. The measures will represent an investment of 2,700 million euros, arising from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to increase the number of houses for rent in Portugal.

“We have 26,000 new dwellings for 26,000 families living in need and who do not have access to decent housing. We are simultaneously developing another program aimed at young people, the middle class, with affordable housing”, announces the Prime Minister.

António Costa stresses that housing is the second strongest component of the PRR, representing a total of 2,700 million euros. However, he adds that we need to go further.

“Obviously, we have to complement the PRR activity and the execution of these works with other political measures. I have been working with the Minister of Housing so that we can soon announce a law that responds to various needs. One so that we have more urban land, so that there can be more construction; another to put properties that have been withdrawn from the housing market back on the housing market; and a set of fiscal measures that give the right incentives for landlords to safely put more houses on rent”.
