Borussia Dortmund: Big surprise before Mainz – nobody expected HIM

Borussia Dortmund’s hopes for a quick comeback from Marco Reus burst on Monday. The captain missed training again – probably the death sentence for the ambitions to return to Mainz (Wednesday, 6.30 p.m.).

But on Monday there was suddenly another star on the pitch that no one at Borussia Dortmund would have expected so quickly. Is a lightning comeback looming soon?

Borussia Dortmund: Star before lightning comeback

After an injury in the training camp in Marbella, Sebastian Kehl reacted again on the transfer market. Julian Ryerson came on for right-back, made a solid debut against Augsburg (4-3) and immediately showed his greatest strengths: willingness to run and fight.

The Norwegian only came because Thomas Meunier had severely torn a muscle fiber. The first forecast was that the Belgian would be out in about six weeks. The surprise for everyone was all the greater when Meunier was suddenly spotted on the training ground on Monday.

Meunier back in running training

Just eleven days after the injury, the 31-year-old is back in running training. A comeback is far from in sight. However, given the severity of the muscle injury, this is extremely surprising.

Meunier may be back much earlier than everyone initially thought. But then he has to face a competition unknown to him at Borussia Dortmund. So far he was placed at right back – now he has a challenger in Ryerson.

More breaking news:

And while Meunier is still doing his laps around the training ground, he can already show himself busy in the competitive games. Next in Mainz – BVB will play there on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.). If the winter newcomer gets stuck, Meunier could threaten the bank after the comeback.
