Animals with giant claws spark outrage

Arctic foxes with giant claws are causing a wave of protest against a zoo in Changsha, in the Chinese province of Hunan.

The revolt against the Zoo grew when photos of arctic foxes struggling to walk began to circulate on social media for having claws to trim.

On the Chinese social network Weibo, according to Independentseveral users shared that arctic foxes’ claws were ‘absurdly long’ and were preventing them from “walking normally”. According to the local press, there were even visitors to file a complaint against the Zoo.

One of the shared publications had over 15,000 shares and an immediate effect: a day later a team of veterinarians was sent to the place.

Although those responsible claim that the foxes were in “good health”several experts from the country recommended to the Zoo that the claws be trimmed each six months.

A Chinese veterinarian, quoted by the Independent, explains that “when arctic foxes live in the wild, the claws wear out naturallybut in a Zoo, as they run little, only a part is worn”, which is why it is necessary to trim them.
