Terrible accident on the A57 in NRW on Tuesday evening (January 24). Around 5.20 p.m. there was a crash in the area of the Moers motorway junction. According to information from the Düsseldorf police, four cars rushed into each other in the direction of Nijmegen.
Two people sustained life-threatening injuries. One person was trapped in their extremely deformed car. The fire brigade needed heavy equipment and a lot of time to free them from the wreck. A rescue helicopter was used to fly at least one of the critically injured victims to the hospital.

According to initial information from the police, there was a traffic jam on the A57 at the time of the accident. Several drivers are said to have recognized the situation and slammed on the brakes. One, however, is said to have reacted too late and crashed into the rear of the man in front at high speed.
The police described what happened next as a chain reaction. After the violent impact, a total of four cars were pushed on top of each other. Two occupants of one of the accident cars involved are in mortal danger on Tuesday evening. According to the “Bild” it should be a woman and her passenger from the second of the four cars. Firefighters are said to have taken more than an hour to free the driver. It was she who came to the clinic by helicopter.
A57 closed for hours after accident
All three lanes of the A57 towards Nijmegen had to be closed for hours for the rescue and recovery work. According to WDR information, the police guided traffic past the accident site via an exit lane. Nevertheless, it was backed up for several kilometers behind the accident site.
