Formula E launches its new era in Mexico, with the premiere of Gen3, the fastest and most powerful electric car ever built, capable of running at more than 300 kilometers per hour, so this category is getting closer and closer to the performance of Formula 1, without the need for high-performance “disposable” fuels and tires.
Regarding Gen 2, the new Formula E car is more compact and is more aggressive in its appearancesince it exposes its tires for the first time, which is close to the version of formula-type cars that those who continuously follow Formula 1 know.
The 2023 season gets underway in Mexico, at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome, and this is your basic guide to enter the world of Formula E and it will help you in case you are going to launch the first E Prix of 2023.

competition format
The qualifying session begins with duels, one turnin a group stage with the 22 pilots. The eight fastest cars in each group they go to the Quarterfinals and then compete for the semifinals and final. The winner is the one who stays with the pole position.
By 2023 Formula E returns to the format of circuit laps instead of time, something we are used to in Formula 1.
New rules. Do they all apply?
For the 2023 season cars will make pit stops to recharge energy for 30 seconds, but this new rule can be implemented in the middle of the season, so in Mexico it will not apply this year.
Alberto Longo, co-founder of Formula E, explained that the pit stop will take place in Mexico due to the changes from Gen2 to Gen3, which among other things, brings a new tire dealer. The first part of the season will be focused on the adaptation of the drivers to the new car and its settings and after that the pit stops will be implemented.
Formula E discards the Fan Boost in 2023which was a vote on social networks to give the pilots an extra boost.
Attack Mode is still in effect, in which the cars must pass through an area of the circuit twice. Although passing through these zones causes you to lose some positions, it rewards you with an extra charge of energy to pass.
Who to follow?
Take a look at which champion Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne, who before the departure of Mercedes passed to Penske. This driver has experience in Formula 1 and is a reserve driver for Mercedes.
the aussie Mich Evans also claims focus with the Jaguar teamas well as Lucas Di Grassi, from the Mahindra team, with whom he finished third in 2022. Also keep an eye on the performance of McLaren, Cupra and Maserati, the new teams for 2023
the layout is different
Although the E-Prix is run at the Hermanos Rodríguez racetrack, the layout is not the same compared to the Formula 1 Grand Prix and one of the main differences is removing about 50% of the front straight.
Also, the layout makes the cars parade through the inside and outside of the Foro Sol, unlike F1, where the single-seaters leave the Foro Sol right by the division of the grandstands.
