If we talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one character we were dreaming of seeing much more involved is Daredevil. And it is that if we are honest, when there was talk a few years ago that the Netflix series (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, etc.) would be discontinued, many fans were hopelessly disappointed.
Those characters –to a greater or lesser extent and with very brief references to the MCU in their shows– greatly refreshed what Marvel was used to giving us on screen. The question over the years, remained to see if Kevin Feige’s team would do something to retake those protagonists… and it happened.
The ‘Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’ played by charlie cox reappeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and then did the same She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. And as confirmed in mid-2022, Marvel Studios will fully incorporate it into its universe with a new series called Daredevil: Born Again. Here, we run through what we know so far about this upcoming show.
The cast of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ with the return of Charlie Cox
How could it be otherwise, the dear charlie cox is more than confirmed to star. And well, the truth is that this was already coming with all the cameos that she made in the last year within the MCU.
But what undoubtedly made us happier in the revelations of the cast, was that Vincent D’Onofrio will return to do the Kingpin (who already had an appearance in the series of hawkeye). In addition to the stars, they are confirmed in the cast michael gandolfini (the son of James Gandolfini of The Sopranos who we saw in The Many Saints Newark) on undeveloped paper.
For now, they are the ones on board in the cast. We will continue to update as soon as more details of the series are given.
Possible cameos or crossovers with other MCU stories
We must be very clear: Marvel Studios in no way –at least for the moment– will reveal if there will be cameos by other characters from their different franchises in Daredevil: Born Again. But in most of the series that have come out since 2021, there have been special appearances to interconnect phase 4 and it will not be strange that this is the case with phase 5.
Charlie Cox’s character, as we said before, has already appeared Spider-Man: No Way Home and in She-Hulk. So it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that we could bring these characters on screen through this show. The thing about the arachnid is more complicated due to the issue of Sony and Marvel, the shared rights of the character and the uncertain future of the story that starred Tom Holland. In that sense, far from a cameo, some mention or reference out there sounds more viable.
On She-Hulkthe character played by Tatiana Maslany it would be much safer due to the closeness they experienced in this very series. And if it is about approaches, due to the appearance of the Kingpin in hawkeyethere’s a good chance you’ll see some Clint Barton references or see the movie itself in action. Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld).
Even Threw out (played by Alaqua Fox), who will also have her own miniseries in 2023 and who was already part of the cast of hawkeyewould be an option to see in Daredevil: Born Again.
But above all, Will we see The Defenders? Many rumors from insiders (which the net are not so reliable either) indicate that at least the Jessica Jones by Krysten Ritter sounds strong to respawn. But hey, we will only know the truth about these possible cameos until Marvel Studios releases a trailer or formally announces the full cast.
The probable plot of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
There is a long time left for the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again, so there are not many details about the plot (practically nothing). And that is where one begins to play with the expectation: Will it continue the story of the Netflix series or at least mention it? Will it be a different reincarnation from the known one? Will his return be justified through the facts of Avengers: Infinity War Y end game?
Those are some of the questions that go around the heads of the fans. But perhaps what is most discussed on the table is the inevitable change in tone of the character and his story. As you will remember, the Netflix series was very popular for its rawness, its bloody combat scenes and its adult tone quite dark.
And that is the issue with Disney/Marvel Studios, because their stories, although they are entertaining, they are quite limited in certain aspects to make them more ‘family friendly’ (Moon Knight, She-Hulk Y Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness They are some productions that have broken the mold to a certain extent, but not so much the truth).
Then, will they get their hands on Daredevil: Born Again to make it more familiar? We don’t know, but it’s almost a fact that it won’t even be as bloody as the Netflix series was. Yes indeed, Charlie Cox himself promises that he will keep the tone serious and dark.
“My opinion is that this character works best when it’s aimed at a slightly more mature audience. My gut tells me that at Disney it will be dark, but it probably won’t be as bloody.“he said in a recent interview with the NME.
About the story, very broadly, the series will put us back in front of the fight between Daredevil and the Kingpin. The interesting thing will be to see the aforementioned justification for the return of the hero and how the villain returned after the end of hawkeye. Of course, we will see if this reboot of the character will rescue some details of the Netflix series.
It is supposed that although it is a new beginning, It’s essentially the same character.. And in that sense, it will be interesting to see the uptight and complicated Matt Murdock in a different context. Or will it be that Marvel Studios applies the resource of the multiverses and the variants?
