For the occasion, the NOS had Soufiane Touzani – a Dutchman with Moroccan roots – conduct the interviews.

Bilal El Khannouss had mixed feelings about the football personality: “I am proud to make my debut and that we came this far in the tournament. On the other hand, there is also disappointment, because we wanted to take third place.”

“Whether we already realize what we have done? That is yet to come. Perhaps it will only sink in when we are in Morocco again.”

El Khannouss already enjoyed his first minutes with the national team. “It was certainly not the easiest match. Facing Modric and Kovacic: they are two of the best midfielders in the world.”

Touzai ended the interview with an amusing remark. “You are 18 years old, man. Are you now Simba (a lion cub, ed.) and in four years Mufasa (the lion king, ed.)?”

“Hopefully”, the Genk midfielder laughed. “Now I have to keep my feet on the ground and work hard.”
