After the elimination against Morocco in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Fernando Santos, coach of the Portugal team, assured that he does not regret having left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench for the second consecutive game.
“I don’t regret it, the team did very well in the match with Switzerland. Cristiano is a great player and he came in when we understood that he was necessary in the game. I don’t regret that,” the coach of the Portuguese team said at a press conference.
The ‘7’ from Madeira was left out of the starting eleven in the round of 16 match against Switzerland, in which his substitute, Gonçalo Ramos, scored a hat-trick, and in this quarterfinal against Morocco, in which he was unable to contribute to overcome the adverse marker.
