On the one hand, it is a good thing for FC Schalke 04 that only one professional was present at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. On the other hand, there was not that much income from FIFA for seconded players.

The only S04 star who attended the tournament is Maya Yoshida. The FC Schalke 04 veteran was very unlucky with Japan. Now the national player reported with sad words.

FC Schalke 04: Celebrated star with sad words

The S04 fans cheered, trembled and finally mourned their newcomer Maya Yoshida. The captain of the Japanese national team managed to leave the German national team behind in the group, but had to give up in the round of 16 in a bitter way.

Japan had to go to penalties against Croatia after 120 minutes with the score 1-1 – and that turned into a drama. Japan missed the first two penalties and Croatia converted. When Minamino finally scored to make it 2-1, Croatian player Livaja missed. Suddenly there was hope again in Japan. Then Schalke’s Yoshida stepped up. The 34-year-old, who prepared the 1-0 lead in the first half, miserably missed Croatia keeper Livakovic. Then Vlasic converted confidently and shot his team into the quarterfinals.
