The recent premiere of season 13 of ‘La que se avecina’ seems to be bringing more misfortune than joy. To his failure on Telecinco we must add that he has infuriated many viewers with a plot starring Look Ibarguren who has been accused of promoting fatphobia.
Indefensible
The plot in question revolves around the extra kilos that Yolanda has gained, her unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, and the cheats she makes to continue eating as she pleases. In the disappointing two episodes that I saw of this new season, I confess that I found it a bit grotesqueas if it were taken from a series made several decades ago.
I am aware that it is not the first time that ‘La que se avecina’ has dealt with a thorny subject, but on other occasions there was always a certain critical vocation. It would be better or worse accomplished, but there was. Here it just seems like it’s a matter of making fun of overweight people and little less than to imply that they are hardly able to move.
The explanation for this plot is that the writers of the series wanted to find something for hide the pregnancy in real life by Ibarguren and it seems that the idea of his character going through the same thing was not an option. So they grabbed a fatsuit and several facial prostheses to achieve an effect that has angered a wide sector of the public:
I keep getting clips of La que se avecina and I have discovered that the actress Miren Ibarguren wears a fucking fat suit to play a role of “typical fat woman who only eats shit and is lying in bed all day” is that I it looks disgusting. pic.twitter.com/9CdBFlsXrN

They put in the one that is coming a fat woman who will wear a size 48-50 at most, like a person with almost reduced mobility and a disability, who only thinks about eating and eating. Look, I mess with that series a lot, but no one can defend this for me.

It seems to me a fucking shame that at this point in life there are series like #LQSA that they continue to wear fatsuits and dedicate themselves to ridicule fat people to grotesque levels.
We are not your fucking circus monkeys. #fatphobia

How easy it is to hide behind “humor” to say what you want without fear of reprisals. It is not humor, it is hate and it is embarrassing that it spends hours on TV #LQSA13 #lqsa #fatphobia

Freaking out that in 2022 a fatsuit will be used to continue making the joke with the fat. I thought this level of fatphobia was in the past (Monica on Friends) and we agreed it was wrong, but no, once again fatphobia is still a joke. pic.twitter.com/ABWY2I5syk

Now we will also have to see how they solve it, since it is clear that it is something temporary and that they will do without it for the following season, some miraculous liposuction? Who knows, but in the meantime I doubt very much that the viewers’ perception of this plot will improve…
