Never mind that Disney’s organization chart has been turned upside down with the return of Bob Iger to the CEO job and the restructuring of departments; The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be one of the cornerstones of the House of Mouse economyand its Phase 5 one of the main claims for its calendar for the coming years.
In this article we will talk, precisely, about the feature film that, for the moment, is destined to close the second stage of the Multiverse Saga on July 26, 2024. A ‘Thunderbolts’ that will bring out the most anti-heroic face of the MCU and of which we are going to review everything we know so far about it.
‘FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’ shows that a more ADULT MCU is possible
When is ‘Thunderbolts’ released?
As announced in San Diego during the panel dedicated to the Multiverse Saga at the last Comic-Con 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ movie will close Phase 5 on July 26, 2024; a couple of months after the launch of ‘Captain America: New World Order’ and the landing of the highly anticipated ‘Daredevil’ series on Disney+. Yes indeed, substantial schedule changes can be expected until then.
Cast and stars of ‘Thunderbolts’
Last September we learned about the official lineup of antiheroes that ‘Thunderbolts’ would lead, and it will be made up of the Winter Soldier, Ghost, Taskmaster, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, US Agent and Contessa Valentina. What does this mean? What to expect is the return of the interpreters who have already given them life in the MCU.+
In this way, the cast up to now has Florence Pugh, Olga Kurylenko, David Harbor, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, and Wyatt Russell. But there is still a small surprise, because Harrison Ford will be in charge of bringing General Thaddeus Ross to the big screen; who was previously played by the sadly late William hurt.
The director of ‘Thunderbolts’
In the director’s seat of ‘Thunderbolts’, and in another maneuver to sign medium-low profile filmmakers associated with the panorama indie and without experience in this type of blockbusters —ergo, easy to malle and to catch in the industrial gears— we will have to Jake Schreier; responsible for feature films such as ‘Ciudades de papel’ and the celebrated ‘A friend for Frank’, as well as video clips for artists such as Justin Bieber or Kanye West.
The Thunderbolts team
As of today, Eric Pearson, responsible for the scripts for ‘Black Widow’ —glups— and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ —glups bis— is the scribe in charge of shape the script from ‘Thunderbolts’. For his part, photography will be directed by Steve YedlinRian Jonson’s head DOP, with whom he has shaped both installments of ‘Puñales por la espalda’, ‘Looper’ or that visual jewel that is ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.
At the moment it has not been revealed who will be in charge of the assembly and production design departments, but we will be aware of any developments.
The history of ‘Thunderbolts’
Today’s date there is not a single detail, beyond the official team, about the plot of the Thunderbolts movie; a supergroup of antiheroes created by Kurt Busiewk and Mark Bagley at the end of the 90s and which in the cartoon included members such as Bartón Zemo, Norman Osborn, Venom or Bullseye. In the MCU, series like ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ and movies like ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ have already planted seeds for its formation.
Trailers, images and poster
Unsurprisingly, there’s no promotional material for ‘Thunderbolts’ yet apart from the official logo that I leave you here below. We will update with any news.
