First Bo Odar wrote:

“I wanted to keep quiet, but seeing how the writers receive aggressive messages is going too far. They are two amazingly talented people who have put a lot of work into creating their own original story. It annoys me a lot and makes me very sad to see many jump on the bandwagon without knowing what they are talking about. 1899 is a very special project that they have been working on for many years and it has nothing to do with comics. But if they watched the series and read the comic, we wouldn’t have this conversation. I will always defend them because I know that what they create is always something unique.”

For his part, Friese made a statement in the same Instagram post:

“I haven’t posted anything in years because I honestly think social media has gotten toxic. The last 24 hours have shown it again. To put it in perspective, a Brazilian artist claimed that we stole from her graphic novel. To be clear: we haven’t! Until yesterday we didn’t even know it existed. Over the course of two years, we put pain, sweat and fatigue into the 1899 creation. This is an original idea and not based on any material.”
