The Courts of Castilla y León have rejected lighting the facade of the institution for the International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women for reasons of efficiency and energy savings. This has been transferred by the president of the autonomous Chamber, Carlos Pollán, to the Board of Spokespersons, which took place after the meeting of the Parliamentary Bureau.

In this way, the Cortes wields the energy saving decree-law to reject the request of the Councilor for Family and Equal Opportunities of the Board, Isabel Blanco, to illuminate the main façade of the parliamentary chamber for this November 25 for the International Day Against Gender Violence, according to the Ical agency.

Pollán, who has written a letter addressed to Isabel Blanco and to which Ical has had access, has argued that one of the institution’s priorities and commitments is “to give a voice to those realities and groups that need it most”.

In this sense, the president of the Cortes has qualified in the letter that “without a doubt”, violence “in any of its manifestations, also against women, figures among them, among the scourges that we must all combat”

However, I am certain that they are “forced” to take energy saving measures to comply with the Government’s decree-law of August 1, which aims to reduce electricity consumption and its cost as much as possible.

Lastly, Pollán added that until said context improves and normality can return, the lighting projected on the building’s façade is temporarily suspended. Likewise, he has trusted that during 2023 this and other requests can be met.

Twice illuminated in October

The PSOE of Castilla y León has not been slow to recall that the façade of the Cortes has been illuminated in two during the month of October on the occasion of Mental Health Day and Dyslexia Day, at the same time that they have denounced that there are to “have little shame” to refuse the request of the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities.

The vice-spokesperson of the PSOECyL, Patricia Gómez Urbán, has described the refusal as a “lie and insult” the excuse of energy savings by the president of the Cortes. The socialist recalled that there are “1,171 women murdered”, while she has accused Alberto Núñez Feijóo of letting “those who attack and harass women daily with their statements” enter the Community Government.

Gómez Urbán has reiterated that those who yesterday, “in a nauseating and indecent way, harassed the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, are in the regional government thanks to Feijóo”, who authorized the “pact of shame” and has allowed today the “ultra-right” is part of the regional executive.

Finally, the socialist called on women to say that “not everything is worth it, that they will not pass” and that their freedoms and rights are “in danger because of those who authorized the extreme right to be in the Government of Castilla y León “. She also reiterated the “daily commitment” of the PSOE against gender violence, to end up inviting all citizens to participate in the 25N demonstration, since “gender violence exists.”
