UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka has suffered a serious shoulder injury and will not be able to rematch with Glover Teixeira. It could take more than a year for a champion to recover. Jiri did not invent anything, out of respect for his colleagues, he decided to vacate the title. After returning to the sport, he will immediately hold a title fight against the current champion.

UFC President Dana White commented on the situation:

“This is the worst shoulder injury the doctors have seen in UFC history,” White told Yahoo Sports. “It’s really fucking bad. His shoulder is in very bad condition. He will have a major operation that will require a long recovery.

“We met with Jiri last night, and listen: this guy is one of the most worthy people of all time. He is a warrior and he was incredibly upset. He brought up the topic of title vacation before we even talked about it. He will be out for a long time, and at some stage we would have to strip him of the title. But he himself said that out of respect for other fighters, he did not want to delay the division. This guy is very cool, if he reacted like that.

Magomed Ankalaev received a long-awaited title chance. On December 11, he and Blachowicz will headline the UFC 282 tournament and fight for the UFC light heavyweight title.
