Black Thursday in NRW. On November 24, numerous accidents occurred on the roads and railways in the country. Several people lost their lives in the process. Many more were injured.

On Black Thursday in North Rhine-Westphalia, a regional train hit a car, a bus hit two children and another train hit a man. Police later opened fire on a man.

NRW: Two dead on Deutsche Bahn tracks

In the midday hours, the emergency services had to do hard work in NRW on Thursday. First there was a fatal train accident in Sauerland (more here). Then an accident victim died in the Ruhr area at the wheel of a car that was rammed by a regional train (more here). Both routes had to be closed for hours.

It shouldn’t be the only deaths in NRW that day. In Hövelhof in the Paderborn district, a driver discovered the lifeless body of a cyclist (78) in the ditch in the late morning. An emergency doctor could only determine the death of the man. According to initial findings, the 78-year-old could have fallen after an internal emergency.

Bus captures children – NRW autobahn blocked

There were also several dramas on the streets of North Rhine-Westphalia. A bus in Essen hit two children who had run across the street (more here).

The A3 had to be closed near Oberhausen after a serious accident. A truck driver had lost control of his truck and crashed into a car. All occupants suffered serious injuries. Due to complex salvage work, the motorway has to remain closed until Friday (more here).

Police shoot man in North Rhine-Westphalia

A police operation in NRW should also escalate on Black Thursday. According to information from DER WESTEN, a rioter in his apartment in Gesecke (Soest district) threatened police officers with a knife. One of the officers is said to have pulled out his service weapon and shot the man.

It is unclear how many shots were fired. The man is said to have been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
