Escape from what? At approximately 5:00 a.m. on November 24, the authorities were reported a strong smell of ammonia in the Manuel Gutiérrez neighborhood, municipality of Nanchital, in the state of Veracruz.
The authorities arrived at the place and almost an hour later, residents of the neighborhood were evacuated and taken to the community’s House of Culture. Fortunately, the leak was controlled without accidents or injuries, but the neighbors report that It is already the second leak of the year.
An ammonia leak in Veracruz
At 5:00 a.m. on November 24, the residents of the Manuel Gutiérrez neighborhood, Nanchital municipality, reported to the authorities a rather strong smell of ammonia.
Elements of the state police, the National Guard and the Army arrived at the scene. After confirming the leak, which could be seen in the distance, they made the decision to evacuate some families to avoid an accident.
According to state Civil Protection, 217 people were evacuated preventively and taken to two temporary shelters: the House of Culture and another on Lázaro Cárdenas street.
In addition, classes were suspended at the Colegio de Bachilleres 34 and the Secundaria Técnica 118, both schools close to the leak.
At the site there were elements of the Navy, the Army, Physical Security of Petroleas Mexicanos, state and municipal Civil Protection, as well as state, municipal and city police.
Fortunately, no one was injured. At 10:00 a.m., the leak had already been controlled by Pemex personnel.
On May 23 of this same year, more than 200 people were evacuated from the Tepeyac and Los Mangos neighborhoods, in the municipality of Nanchital, due to an ammonia leak. In the same way, classes were suspended and Pemex personnel went to the place to repair the broken pipeline.
