Felipe VI held a meeting this Thursday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thanicoinciding with his visit to the Arab country to attend the first match of the Spanish National Team in the World Cup that is taking place in this country and involved in controversy.

No government minister has accompanied the King on this trip, as is usual in these appointments. Don Felipe’s presence in Doha responds to the invitation extended by the Qatari emir when he visited Madrid in May.

During that visit, the King praised Qatar for taking on the challenge of organizing the World Cup and its advances in civil rights and public liberties and gave the emir a National Team shirt.

For his part, Al Thani announced that his country was going to increase investment in Spain by 4,720 million euros in the coming years due to its confidence in the Spanish economy.

In addition to meeting with the emir, Felipe VI met this Thursday in Doha with representatives of some thirty Spanish companies based in Qatar, who have thanked him for his presence for what it means to support their commercial work in this Arab country.

In this meeting, the King was accompanied by the president of the Higher Sports Council, Jose Manuel Franco, with whom he arrived in Doha this Wednesday to attend the match that Spain won 7-0 over Costa Rica. He has also accompanied them by the Spanish ambassador in Qatar, Javier Maria Carbajosaand the president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in this country, david quintanilla.
