In the past, Guido Reil has repeatedly polarized with critical and sometimes borderline statements, even beyond the borders of his constituency in Essen. Even in the European Parliament, Reil doesn’t exactly cover himself with fame.
In 2019 he went straight from Essen to Brussels after taking second place in the EU elections for the AfD behind Jörg Meuthen. Since then it has been quiet about Essen’s scandalous politicians – until now. Because in the last vote of the EU Parliament, the native of Gelsenkirchen joined a bad circle.
Essen scandal politician Guido Reil is making a name for himself again
Expulsion from the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), legal disputes with his ex-employer RAG or even police custody after a May demonstration: Guido Reil has caused offense on almost every level in the Ruhr area. But after he went to Brussels on his self-chosen mission, “the rescue of the Ruhr area”, it seemed to be quiet about the Essen AfD size.
The scandals from the past seemed to be history in Belgium for the time being. Until now! Because in the last vote of the EU Parliament, on November 23, Reil made a name for himself along with 57 other MPs.
Reil votes in the EU Parliament in the interests of Russia
They were the only ones in the 596-seat body who voted against considering Russia as a state that promotes terrorism or uses terrorism itself as a means to an end.
This vote was conducted against the background of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. For weeks, Russian troops are said to have been bombing and destroying the country’s energy supply and hospitals in order to persuade the Ukrainian people to capitulate.
The vote in the EU Parliament was a solidarity with the Ukrainians. Or with Putin and Russia. Because Reil and the other no-voters, all of whom come from the right-wing camp, have made it clear whose side they are taking in the Ukraine conflict.
