Trust is the most important thing in a relationship. However, if this trust is deliberately exploited by the partner to manipulate you, this is referred to as a toxic relationship, so-called gaslighting.

In gaslighting, the other person tries to influence you emotionally. This usually works so well that the person affected and outsiders cannot recognize it. Over time, the victim doubts himself more and more and closes himself off to other people.

How gaslighting makes you lose confidence in yourself

Gaslighting can be experienced through a partner, but also through friends or family members. The perpetrator or perpetrators are usually close to the victim, which makes it easier for him or her to influence the person concerned over a longer period of time.
