As planned, Honor has just announced its second foldable: the Honor Magic Vs. It is a high-end device that will finally be the first Honor foldable to leave China. The previous model, the Honor Magic V, stayed in its home market, but now it seems that Honor is ready to take on Samsung, Huawei and Motorola in other markets.

Honor’s second foldable promises durability

The changes at an aesthetic level are not so evident, but we do see an evolution in terms of design. The company has managed to reduce the thickness of the device both folded and unfolded, going from 14.3 and 6.7 millimeters in the Honor Magic V to 12.9 and 6.1 millimeters in the Honor Magic Vs, although it has done so in exchange for increasing the weight to 261 grams.

Honor Magic V, first impressions: a serious candidate to become the best foldable on the market

In what would be the rear we find a striking design, with colors like orange and cyan, and a huge camera module, which we will talk about later. Between the two panels, the hinge. This hinge, Honor claims, has fewer components but is just as durable. According to the firm, the hinge holds up to 400,000 folds, which would be 100 folds a day for more than ten years. We’ll see how that holds that promise.

As far as the screen is concerned, we have a book type device with an internal or main screen and an external screen. The external one, which is the one we will use with the folded terminal, is a 6.45-inch OLED panel with FullHD+ resolution, 21:9 format and 120 Hz refresh rate that reproduces 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. Honor ensures that it occupies 90% of the front. On paper, it doesn’t look bad.

The internal or folding screen is larger. We are before a 7.9-inch flexible OLED panel with 90 Hz refresh rate, reproduction of 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and compatibility with HDR10 +. Honor’s idea is to offer a tablet-like experience.

If we take a look at the components, we will find an interesting evolution. If the previous model incorporated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the new Magic Vs mounts the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which partly solves the problems of throttling. It is accompanied by eight or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of RAM, depending on the version.

All this is given life by a 5,000 mAh battery divided into two cells with 66W fast charging. According to Honor, the terminal fully charges in 46 minutes. The operating system is Android 12 with MagicOS 7.0Honor’s customization layer that, let’s remember, on international devices does incorporate Google Mobile Services.

Finally, and in terms of photography, the Honor Magic Vs mounts three sensors. The first and most striking is the main one, which is none other than the 54 megapixel Sony IMX800. It also has a 50-megapixel wide-angle that works as a macro and an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom, 30x digital zoom and OIS. Selfies are in the hands of a 16-megapixel camera.

Versions and price of Honor Magic Vs

The Honor Magic Vs has been announced in China, where it is available in orange, cyan and black. Its price will start at 7,499 yuan, which in exchange is 1,015 euros. We still do not know its price in Spain, but being the first Honor foldable to come out of China, it will surely not take too long to find out.
