Horror accident on the Kö in Düsseldorf! A senior (84) lost control of his car shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening (November 22), then drove into parked cars and e-scooters before the SUV came to a stop on the side of the road.

According to the current status of the investigation, the 84-year-old man from Mettmann drove his Mercedes on Königsallee in Düsseldorf in the direction of Corneliusplatz. At the intersection of Königsallee and Königstrasse, he obviously overlooked a red traffic light. As a result, he crashed into the Opel of a 48-year-old who drove into the intersection from Königstraße near Grün. The senior continued to accelerate, drove a few meters further on Königsallee, injured three passers-by during his uncontrolled drive and crashed into four parked cars and around 30 e-scooters and e-bikes. Finally, the Mercedes came to a standstill in front of the bollards on Königsallee / Blumenstrasse.

The drizzle and the difficult lighting conditions could possibly have played a role in the crash with the Mercedes. The emergency services secured leaking oil and petrol. The operation lasted around two hours.

The three pedestrians (26, 31, 40 years old from Düsseldorf) were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. There is no danger to life. The Opel driver suffered minor injuries. The investigations, particularly with regard to the cause of the accident, are ongoing. There are no indications of the consumption of alcohol / intoxicating substances.
