For the first time since February 24, the PCP used the word “invasion” to refer to the Russian war in Ukraine. Now, the party’s general secretary, Paulo Raimundo, explains the delay.

“From a technical point of view, call it what you like. The only issue that we always wanted to safeguard and that we will continue to fight for is that we are facing a war that has escalated on a large scale, but which is not solely responsible for Russia”, he said in an interview with Daniel Oliveira, for a podcast from Express.

It should be recalled that it was in his first speech as general secretary of the PCP, succeeding Jerónimo de Sousa, that Paulo Raimundo spoke of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine. Until then, the party referred to the war as a “military operation”.
