When Tom Hanks plays Fredrik Backman’s grumpy older man on the big screen, the film gets the title “A man called Otto”. The film has its Swedish premiere on January 13, but already a month earlier, on Saint Lucia Day, the film star will come to Sweden to walk the red carpet, according to the film company SF Studios.

Co-star Mariana Trevino and director Marc Foster will also come to the premiere in Stockholm, as will Hank’s wife Rita Wilson, who is one of the film’s producers.

The film is one of SF Studios’ biggest ventures in the company’s history.

“Tom Hanks being there for the gala premiere of ‘A man called Otto’ in Stockholm on December 13 is simply a dream come true. The fact that outstanding talents such as Mariana Trevino, Marc Forster and Rita Wilson are also on hand makes it undoubtedly one of the great milestones, and a fantastic day, in SF Studios’ almost 103-year history,” says SF Studios CEO Michael Porseryd in a press release.

Rolf Lassgård played the main role in the Swedish film version of “A man called Ove”, which was based on Fredrik Backman’s novel of the same name. The book has become an international bestseller, not least in the United States. The Swedish-language film was seen by a whopping 1.7 million cinemagoers and was nominated for two Oscars, including for best non-English language film.
